What Songs Will Survive into 2018?

It’s always difficult to find music with a timeless charm.

As 2017 wraps up, there’s plenty of reason to be excited about all things ALT next year. Yes there are going to be awesome new EP’s and full-on albums being released throughout the months, but my attention is admittedly elsewhere. I for one always enjoy wondering what songs made this year will be chosen to represent ALT in 2017 years from now. Which tunes best describe the musical landscape this year? Well, two songs come to mind right off the bat, those being Imagine Dragon’s “Believer” and “Vacation” by Dirty Heads.

“Believer” is an obvious choice no doubt as I would not be surprised if it turned out to be the most played/bought/streamed ALT song all year. Admittedly, this would be due to the attention this song received from non-ALT orientated audiences, as many people who frequent ALT often find this song a tad average in quality.

“Vacation” on the other hand taps into something we haven’t heard in a while: a happy, half inspirational, half snarky song. Dirty Heads did an awesome job creating a chorus hook that burrows into the listener’s ears and never lets go. The attitude of the song reminds me of early 2000’s pop punk where the artist may not be the best or nicest person, but that didn’t really matter. Hopefully more audiences will hear it and “Vacation” can have more time in the limelight.
