Nintendo Switch’s Online Service…Fashionably Late but Intriguing

They may be about…10 years late to the party, but Nintendo is going to finally have a sizeable online service to offer its millions of Switch users. With it releasing on September 18th, many people are wondering what they are receiving and if they really need it in order to get the full Nintendo Switch experience. Well, let’s go over some of the big points.

First, prices are pretty good with plans ranging from 3.99$ for 1 month, 7.99$ for 3 months, and 19.99$ for a whole year. There also exists a family plan where you have pay 34.99$ for a year but allow you and 7 other accounts access to all the benefits of Nintendo Switch Online.

Now the big features. Starting out, online connectivity to play against others online in games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2. Yes, this feature has been free up till now for these and MANY more titles, but that’s just the world we live in. Next, full usage of the Nintendo Switch Online Smartphone App, which will handle voice chat during online games and various matchmaking duties as well. After that, we have Cloud saves, which means if something were to happen to your system and it’s broken, your game files are saved digitally so when you get your machine either fixed or replaced, you still pick up where you left off. Now for a big one, Access to Classic Nintendo games from the past. Nintendo has announced that when the service releases users will be able to play 20 Classic NES titles, like Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Tecmo Bowl, Double Dragon, and other classics to be released throughout the rest of the year. (to commemorate this, Nintendo is also releasing new Joy-Con Controllers that look just like NES Controllers, Priced at 59.99$).

And Lastly, Subscribers will have access to what they call “Special Offers”. Now, literally NO ONE knows what that means, Nintendo just said “Stay Tuned for more info in the future”. Maybe discounts on certain games, or maybe even a loot create service, I’m literally throwing ideas at the wall here.

Well, that’s everything we know so far. What do you think, is this all enticing enough, or are you unimpressed?

Until Next Time, Alt Rock On!
