My Chemical Romance‘s “G note” has been deemed “iconic” by none other than musical theater legend Andrew Lloyd Webber.

For those that are unfamiliar, the “G note” refers to the opening note of MCR’s anthem “Welcome to the Black Parade.” The joke is that whenever a My Chem fan hears just that one note, they immediately turn into a blubbering mess of emotions.

The power of the “G note” caught the attention of Webber — who composed the music for The Phantom of the Opera, Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar, among others — when he came across a tweet that read, “Still fuming that The Black Parade hasn’t been made into some incredible goth musical.”

“Musical theater fans everywhere, what do you think of when you hear this?” Webber asked in a video as he played a snippet from Phantom.

He then added, “And for everybody else, what do you think of when you hear this?”, followed by that signature G note.

“It’s one thing to create an iconic set of chords, it’s another to make one note iconic,” Webber wrote in the caption.

Many fans were gearing up to hear the “G note” in person this year on My Chem’s reunion tour, but the outing’s been postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
