In case it wasn’t clear from their collaborative single “Obey,” Bring Me the Horizon‘s Oli Sykes is a big fan of Yungblud.

In an interview with NME, Sykes describes Yungblud as “the kind of artists that rock needs,” and even compares him to the legendary David Bowie.

“[Yungblud’s] the kind of rock star that changes a scene,” Sykes says. “I love him; he lights up a room. He’s the polar opposite to me. I wish I could have that confidence that he has. It’s infectious and that’s why a lot of kids look up to him.”

He adds, “Not since Bowie have we had people who are just so unashamedly and genuinely themselves and don’t give f*** or play by the rules.”

As Sykes explains, Yungblud was excited to work with Horizon on “Obey” because he felt it would be “so good for the [rock] scene.”

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve got the best band in the world, because if that’s the only one, then that scene dies,” Sykes says. “You can count on two hands the prominent rock bands that aren’t legacy acts or indie/pop bands like The 1975.

“For actually heavy rock, there aren’t really enough artists to coax people in,” he continues. “I get excited when I see Machine Gun Kelly doing a pop-punk album. That’s going to bring people into our world.”

“Obey” is featured on Bring Me the Horizon’s new Post Human: Survival Horror EP, which also includes a collaboration with Evanescence‘s Amy Lee.

Yungblud, meanwhile, will release his upcoming sophomore album Weird! on December 4.
