Coldplay and Alt-J are contributing to Playlists for Earth, a new climate change awareness and action campaign created by the environmental charity ClientEarth.
As part of the project, participating artists have curated their own playlists to “ignite conversations around environmental action.” The titles for each of the songs on the purposefully ordered mixes come together as sentences to “communicate a powerful message about the climate crisis,” a press release notes.
For example, Coldplay’s playlist begins with Oasis‘ “Listen Up,” followed by Dua Lipa‘s “Pretty Please,” Cat Power‘s cover of “What the World Needs Now,” and “Is Love,” by post-punk band White Lies. When taken together as a sentence, the song titles read “Listen up, pretty please, what the world needs now is love.”
Milky Chance also created a Playlist for Earth, as did musicians Anna Calvi, Tom Misch and Francisca Valenzuela.
