Death Cab for Cutie is releasing a new live album in support of independent music venues affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 17-track set, titled Live at the Showbox, was recorded over Ben Gibbard and company’s three-night run at the iconic Seattle club in February of 2020. The shows were held in support of making the Showbox an official Seattle landmark.
“Like so many other artists, we expected to play a lot of shows in 2020,” Death Cab says. “To gear up for the year ahead, we decided to warm up by playing an intimate, three-nightstand at a venue that’s near and dear to our hearts — the Showbox in Seattle.”
“Well, 2020 didn’t quite turn out as we had planned,” the band adds. “But happily those three magical nights last February did, and we’re glad to say that we had them recorded.”
Live at the Showbox will be released this Friday, May 7, and will only be available for 24 hours via Death Cab’s Bandcamp. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the National Independent Venue Association.
