FINNEAS is performing from Los Angeles during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2023. Speaking with ABC Audio during rehearsals for the show, the Grammy and Oscar winner shares his memories of watching the annual special growing up.

“I feel like we always had a couple of friends over, their parents, and we all played, like, Pictionary or some ’90s board game or something, and this was always on,” FINNEAS recalls. “Then we would take turns during the commercial breaks. That was always the vibe.”

To now be able to perform on NYRE, FINNEAS says, is “super exciting.”

“I feel like the benefit of things like this is you’re performing in front of people that made no choice to see your performance,” he laughs. “So there’s a certain amount of pressure, I suppose, but it’s a good opportunity to play for people that didn’t otherwise choose to look you up, or maybe didn’t know who you are.”

While he may be introducing his music to some new fans with his NYRE set, FINNEAS has another New Year’s resolution for 2023.

“I wanna cook way more,” FINNEAS says. “I really love cooking, and not a huge fan of doing the dishes, I’m not a huge fan of grocery shopping, so those two obstacles in the way of cooking, I gotta work on those. But I really find a lot of joy in cooking, and it’s less wasteful and all the rest.”

Barring that, though, he’ll settle for something a little simpler.

“Maybe that’s my resolution, is to do the dishes, yeah,” FINNEAS says.

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest airs December 31 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
