Fitz and the Tantrums are hitting the road this weekend on a tour in support of their new album, Let Yourself Free, which gives the band even more songs to play during their famously energetic live shows.
“It’s our fifth studio album, which just blows my mind now that we’ve been doing this for this long that we’re on our fifth studio album,” frontman Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick tells ABC Audio.
“Every record, you play all your songs to death, and then you’re, like, ‘OK, can we get something new in the mix here?'” he continues. “So I think for us as musicians, just live, we’re also really excited to break out some of the other songs on the record.”
Some of those songs include the Let Yourself Free cuts “Silver Platter” and “Steppin’ on Me,” which Fitz feels “draw a through line back to our very first record.”
“Those two songs really hearken back to some of our OG Motown ’60s soul roots,” Fitz says.
Fitz and the Tantrums’ tour begins Saturday in Portland, Oregon.
