Bob Moses may be considered an electronic band, but the duo has found a home on alternative radio with singles including “Tearing Me Up,” “Back Down” and, most recently, “Love Brand New,” which hit the top five on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart.

Having grown up in Vancouver listening to their local alt station, Bob Moses members Jimmy Vallance and Tom Howie feel they’ve now come full circle.

“That’s how we got exposed to Rage Against the Machine, Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, you name it,” Vallance tells ABC Audio. “Alternative radio was such a massive part of our childhood growing up in Vancouver.”

Their Vancouver upbringing also put Vallance and Howie some 150 miles away from Seattle, aka the birthplace of grunge, which certainly found its way into Bob Moses’ music.

“Specifically coming from the Pacific Northwest and hearing Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, that melancholic sound that fit with the gray skies of Vancouver, I think that has just been ingrained in to who we are as artists,” Vallance shares.

He adds, “I think that the fact that we now make music that ends up on a platform that heavily inspired us, that part of it makes complete sense to us.”

“Love Brand New” appears on Bob Moses’ new album The Silence in Between, which dropped in March. The duo’s tour in support of the record continues Wednesday in Chicago.
