The second season of The Umbrella Academy, the Netflix show based on Gerard Way‘s comic book series of the same name, includes a new solo single from the My Chemical Romance frontman called “Here Comes the End.” As Way explains, the track actually dates back to the very first day of shooting the first season.

In an interview with the Behind the Scenes | The Umbrella Academy podcast, Way reveals that he first started writing “Here Comes the End” while the final scene of the pilot episode was being filmed. In the scene, Aidan Gallagher‘s Five tells Ellen Page‘s Vanya that the world is about to end. Her response? “I’ll put on a pot of coffee.”

“After Ellen would deliver her line, ‘I’ll put on a pot of coffee,’ I kept picturing it cutting to black,” Way recalls. “And then I heard this song in my head.”

Also on the podcast, Way shares that he listened to bands including Pixies and The Smashing Pumpkins while writing The Umbrella Academy comic.

Both seasons of The Umbrella Academy are streaming now on Netflix.
