K.Flay tells ABC Audio that she’s working on new music to follow her 2019 album, Solutions.

“We’re working on getting it out soon,” the musician, born Kristine Flaherty, says of the new material. “I’m really stoked on it.”

Flaherty adds that she feels what she’s working on is headed in a different sonic direction than Solutions, which she describes as a “more upbeat, positive record.”

“[That’s] not to say that I’ve dove back into the deep, dark pools of cynicism,” Flaherty explains. “But this next project is heavier, and kinda darker.”

However, that heavier and darker sound is not necessarily reflective of Flaherty’s life — in fact, she says she’s personally been in a “healthy, good state.”

“Personally, I’m not engaging in really any self-destructive behaviors, which is great,” Flaherty says. “So it’s, like, ‘How do I get out those feelings?’…Through the music.”

While you wait for new K.Flay tunes, you can hear her on “Zen” with X Ambassadors and grandson, and producer Whethan‘s song “Hurting on Purpose.”
