LCD Soundsystem scraps remainder of NYC residency dates

LCD Soundsystem has canceled the remainder of the band’s ongoing residency at New York City’s Brooklyn Steel due to surging COVID-19 case numbers driven by the Omicron variant.

Last Friday, the dance-punk outfit announced that they intended to go on with the shows, while allowing anyone who no longer wished to attend to receive refunds and be “first in line” for tickets to the next LCD NYC show.

“You need to make your own decision as to whether you feel safe coming to see us,” read a statement from James Murphy and company. “If enough people want to cancel, we’ll cancel the shows and refund everyone, putting you next in line as well. It’s the best we can come up with.”

LCD then played their scheduled show Friday, but on Sunday, they announced that the last three dates on the 20-show residency, set for December 19, 20 and 21, would no longer be taking place.

“You good people who want to return your tickets and try again another time have spoken,” read an updated statement. “But so has the new info, the hospital capacity, and those of us in the band, crew and venue.”

The band added, “We certainly had enough cancellations to make the vote count, but we also, now with all the new info, want to stop for our own sakes.”

LCD’s Holiday Special streaming event, featuring a performance and the premiere of the All My Friends sitcom based on the band, is currently still scheduled to air December 22 via Amazon Music.
