Billy Corgan has high praise for Lil Peep.

In an interview with Upset magazine, the Smashing Pumpkins frontman declares the late rapper was “his generation’s Kurt Cobain.”

The piece doesn’t include any elaboration on the thought from Corgan, though he’s long been a fan of Lil Peep. In a 2018 interview with Build, Corgan compared the feeling he had listening to Peep to the same emotions he felt when he was growing up in the suburbs and heard Metallica for the first time.

Peep, who died in 2017 at age 21, was greatly influenced by rock and alternative music, and referenced the Nirvana icon himself in his song “Cobain.” He also had fans in Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz and Blink-182‘s Travis Barker.
