CHVRCHES has released a cover of the Echo & the Bunnymen song “The Killing Moon.”

The trio put their spin on the ’80s alternative classic exclusively for Amazon Music and its newly launched DV8 playlist, which purports to showcase the “newest generation of alternative music.”

“We all love Echo and the Bunnymen and had wanted to cover ‘The Killing Moon’ for a long time and jumped at the chance when Amazon Music gave us the opportunity,” says frontwoman Lauren Mayberry.

The cover is fitting, Mayberry adds, since the upcoming CHVRCHES album, Screen Violence, is “very much inspired by movies,” and “The Killing Moon” memorably soundtracked the opening of the film Donnie Darko.

Screen Violence is due out August 27. It includes the lead single “He Said She Said,” as well as a collaboration with another ’80s alt icon: The Cure‘s Robert Smith.
