Badflower has premiered a new song called “Don’t Hate Me,” a track off the band’s upcoming album, This Is How the World Ends.
The grungy track, which is available now for digital download, finds frontman Josh Katz pleading “Don’t hate me/more than I hate myself.” That leads up to a chaotic bridge section, in which Katz’s partner leaves him for “the singer from that emo band.”
“It’s a lot of self-awareness,” Katz says of “Don’t Hate Me.” “On the bridge, there’s a meta dialogue where I explain how I’ve changed my entire life and appearance to make somebody else like me more.”
“I think I have experienced versions of trying to be something else for someone else throughout my life,” he adds. “I think everybody has.”
You can watch the “Don’t Hate Me” video, which features a cameo from grandson, streaming now on YouTube.
“Don’t Hate Me” is the second track to be released from This Is How the World Ends, following the lead single “Family.” The album, the sophomore follow-up to 2019’s OK, I’m Sick, will arrive in full on September 24.
