Bastille has premiered a new single called “survivin’.”

The fresh tune follows the surprisingly guitar-driven track “WHAT YOU GONNA DO???” featuring Graham Coxon of Blur, and goes in a completely different sonic direction. You can download “survivin'” now via digital outlets.

In a statement, frontman Dan Smith explains he’d originally written ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic about the ups and downs Bastille’s experienced over the band’s seven-year existence.

“There’d been times when I felt like I’d been in a washing machine and on a conveyor belt at the same time,” Smith explains. “But when people asked me how I was doing, the answer was always the British cliché: ‘Yep, all good, fine.'”

“At the start of lockdown, I felt very self-conscious about having written a song that felt relevant when it wasn’t intended to be,” he continues. “But then I also think 2020 is the year we all stopped pretending everything’s fine.”

Bastille’s most recent album is 2019’s Doom Days.
