St. Vincent has released a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song “Piggy” in honor of Trent Reznor and company’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this weekend.
“[‘Piggy’] remains one of my favorite Nails songs to this day,” says St. Vincent mastermind Annie Clark. “I am obsessed with the slinky tambourine that is just a little lazy in feel.”
“When I took this song apart to cover it, it took me a long time to really understand the immensity of the groove,” she adds. “It’s a dark, industrial reggae. Muscular, but never as distorted as you imagined it when you think of it in your head…They made a complicated thing seem easy and made big, bold sonic choices.”
St. Vincent’s version of “Piggy” is available now exclusively through Amazon Music. The platform has also released several other covers of songs by the 2020 Rock Hall inductees, including The Kills taking on “Cosmic Dancer,” by T. Rex.
The 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees include NIN, T. Rex, Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, The Notorious B.I.G. and Whitney Houston. They will be celebrated with an HBO special airing this Saturday, November 7. The usual in-person induction ceremony was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Along with frontman Reznor, six additional present, past and touring members of Nine Inch Nails will officially be inducted into the Rock Hall.
