Like many bands, Tool was in the middle of a tour when the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, effectively shutting down the live music industry. Now, nearly two years later, Maynard James Keenan and company are finally returning to the road.

Monday night, Tool will launch a U.S. tour in Eugene, Oregon. The trek, Keenan tells ABC Audio, gives the “Schism” rockers the chance to “pick up where we left off.”

“We just got interrupted,” Keenan says. “So we’re probably just gonna do what we were planning on doing.”

When they did get interrupted, Tool had been touring in support of their much-anticipated new album Fear Inoculum, which finally dropped in 2019 after a 13-year wait. As for how fans had been reacting to the new stuff live, Keenan maintains that it’s “hard to say.”

“I’m not in other people’s heads,” Keenan says. “But I think just, in general, people…like what they like, and as long as you show up, they’ll be happy.”

Tool plans to do just that on the stateside tour, which runs through a March 20 concert in Cleveland. They’ll then embark on a trip to Europe in April.
