Artists including Tool‘s Maynard James Keenan and Led Zeppelin‘s Robert Plant have shared tributes to the late Mimi Parker, drummer and vocalist for the indie rock outfit Low.
Parker, who co-founded and played in Low alongside husband Alan Sparhawk, passed away over the weekend following a two-year battle with ovarian cancer.
In an Instagram post, Keenan writes that Low has “been a huge influence on my writing approach [with] regards to pace, space, and harmony.”
Keenan adds that in recent years, he’d begun sending letters to “strangers who have had a huge influence on me,” and Parker and Sparhawk were next on his list.
“My point I suppose is Do Not Wait,” Keenan writes. “Life Is Too Short. Say the Words. Send the Letter. Make the Call.”
Keenan also plans to dedicate the Puscifer songs “Horizons” and “A Singularity” to Parker during the band’s current tour.
Plant, meanwhile, covered two Low songs, “Monkey” and “Everybody’s Song,” during a concert Sunday in Glasgow. He previously recorded versions of “Monkey” and the Low track “Silver Rider” for his 2010 solo album , Band of Joy, as well as “Everybody’s Song” in 2020.
