In today’s episode of “Black Mirror meets real life,” Miley Cyrus is teasing a cover of Nine Inch Nails‘ “Head Like a Hole.”
You may recall that Cyrus put a spin on the Pretty Hate Machine single when she played the pop star Ashley O in the 2019 Black Mirror episode “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too.” That version turned “Head Like a Hole” into a ironically cheery pop song, featuring upbeat, aspirational lyrics over candy-coated production.
In a tweet Tuesday, Cyrus shared a clip of her and a backing band rocking out a heavy, guitar-drive cover of the 1999 single, with its original, seething lyrics intact.
In the caption, Cyrus quoted the lyric “God money I’ll do anything for you” in all caps, and added the hashtag #AshleyOGoneWild.
Stay tuned to see if a full version is on its way.
Cyrus has proven her rock bona fides before with covers of songs including Temple of the Dog‘s “Hunger Strike” and The Cranberrries‘ “Zombie,” and her new album Plastic Hearts features collaborations with Joan Jett and Billy Idol.
Additionally, Cyrus is working on a cover of Metallica‘s “Nothing Else Matters” featuring Elton John, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and famed classic cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
