Mondo Cozmo has dropped a new video for “Electrify My Love,” the latest single from the “Shine” singer’s upcoming album.
Shot at a club called Black LBC in Long Beach, CA, it shows the artist, born Josh Ostrander, preparing the empty room for an audience, and then getting onstage and singing the song to nobody.
“‘Electrify My Love’ was the last song to make the record but it was specifically written to be the first song on the album,” says Ostrander. “We wanted the long musical intro to have a calming effect and the opening lyrics to be of comfort: ‘Good evening everyone, I hope this finds you well’ — a sincere check-in on everyone after what we have all been through. I love how the chorus punches ya in the heart.”
Mondo Cozmo’s third album,, This Is for the Barbarians, will be out April 8. Its title was inspired by a group of San Francisco 1980s-era writers who called themselves the “Barbarians” because they used to hang out at a place called Cafe Babar. Specifically, the title is the dedication of a book by one of those writers, David Lerner.
Describing the album, Ostrander says, “It’s bright and funny, the human experience in a year of isolation…This is for the people going through darkness like I’ve been going through. Is anybody else out there hurting, or mad, or scared out of their mind? We’re in this together.”
