Man! This year’s FestivALT was FAN.TAS.TIC! Local band Luxxe opened up the day as we traveled through a musical journey between Jason Devore, Never Shout Never, Jr Jr, Borns and KONGOS. Only to end the night on the most Grand ways possible with the Valley’s own Nate Ruess (of The Format and fun.). One thing was clear, as soon as Nate jumped on stage to close out the night, he was here to conquer. And he did not disappoint. Revisiting songs from both Fun. and The Format while sprinkling in songs from his solo album, Grand Romantic. (He also threw in a sweet cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” that I wish I got video of) But after returning to the stage for a SECOND encore, he paid tribute to Prince by covering “Let’s Go Crazy” full of energy, high note screams and an epic ending to a beautiful day.
