Founding Oasis guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer.

Arthurs revealed the news in a statement posted Tuesday, writing that he’s “going to be taking a break from playing for a while.”

“I’ve been diagnosed with tonsil cancer, but the good news is it’s treatable and I’ll be starting a course of treatment soon,” he shares. “I’ll keep you posted how it’s going.”

Arthurs was original member of Oasis, and played on the albums Definitely Maybe, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? and Be Here Now before leaving the band in 1999. More recently, he’s been playing in Liam Gallagher‘s solo band, and was set to join his former Oasis band mate on the road for a number of shows this summer.

“I’m gutted I’m missing the gigs with Liam and the band,” Arthurs says. “Have the best summer and enjoy the gigs if you’re going, I’ll see you soon.”

Gallagher has since posted his own statement wishing Arthurs well.

“Sending BIG love to the 1 n only Bonehead and his family wishing you a speedy recovery we’re all thinking of you,” Gallagher writes.
