Paramore‘s Hayley Williams has issued a statement condemning anti-LGBTQ+ comments made by an unnamed former band member.
“There’s a reason there are only 3 people left in @paramore. Surprise, haters, it ain’t cause of me,” Williams tweeted Wednesday night. “Paramore do not condone religiously/politically dogmatic beliefs which leave our LGBTQ+ friends, fans, & family feeling abandoned and hopeless.”
“Ya know, if that doesn’t [jibe] with you, well, feel free to go to where all past members of Paramore have gone which is literally anywhere else but Paramore,” she added. “To Paramore’s LGBTQ+ family…you are full of love and you are loved.”
Williams did not specify which ex-Paramore band member she was referring to, but her comments come after a post allegedly made by former guitarist Josh Farro, brother of the band’s current drummer, Zac Farro, started trending on social media this week. The post calls homosexuality a “perversion” akin to pedophilia.
Josh Farro played in Paramore from 2004 to 2010. The band now consists of Williams, Zac Farro and guitarist Taylor York.
