Portugal. the Man is releasing a new song on Monday, October 12, to mark Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
The track is called “Who’s Gonna Stop Me,” and features none other than “Weird Al” Yankovic.
With the new tune, Portugal. the Man will be supporting the Navajo Water Project and its effort to supply the Navajo Nation with clean, running water. Through the band’s PTM Foundation, they will match up to $20,000 in donations to the cause.
“This campaign is an opportunity for us to help raise awareness, highlight Indigenous artists and activists, and fundraise in support of water access for communities of Indigenous Peoples, who are 19 times less likely to have running water than non-Natives,” says lead vocalist John Gourley.
“Over two million Americans have no access to running water,” Gourley adds. “We’re taking action because the government won’t. We can’t just sit back and watch our friends get sick and die. It’s enough.”
