Rage Against the Machine has shared a statement in support of Palestine amid the growing violence between it and Israel.

“The violence and atrocities we are witnessing in Sheikh Jarrah, the Al Aqsa compound and Gaza are a continuation of decades of Israel’s brutal apartheid and violent occupation of Palestine,” the band tweeted.

“We stand with the Palestinian people as they resist this colonial terror in all its forms,” they added, along with the hashtag #FreePalestine.

Rocket fire and airstrikes between Israel and Palestine over the past few days have killed at least 53 Palestinians, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and at least six Israelis, according to Israeli emergency services.

Rage Against the Machine has been trending on Twitter since the release of the statement, with fans mostly expressing disbelief that anyone could listen to Rage and not realize they’re a political band.

“Rage Against the Machine wrote in support of Palestine?!?” one person tweeted. “Geez, what’s next? Are the Red Hot Chili Peppers going to come out and say they’re from California?”
