In addition to celebrating the 21st anniversary of their 2001 debut album, Oh, Inverted World, The Shins‘ current tour is throwing it all the way back to the grunge era.
During the tour’s opening show in San Francisco earlier this week, James Mercer and company covered the Stone Temple Pilots staple “Vasoline.”
Fan-shot footage of the performance, which was posted to YouTube, shows The Shins delivering a faithful rendition of the 1994 single, with Mercer reading the lyrics to the song off of his phone.
The Shins’ tour, during which they’re playing Oh, Inverted World in full, continues Friday in Sacramento.
