Thursday: LUAU – Discrete Company

With a dynamic blend of textured guitars, driving rhythm section, and honest open lyrics delivered through emotive vocals, indie alt-rock outfit LUAU channel genre pioneers in crafting their brand of vibrant and heartfelt sounds. The Tempe, Ariz. based group is comprised of vocalist and guitarist Evan Hallock, guitarist Chad Bergman, bassist Chris Windsor, and drummer Joel Knight. Recording with Matt Keller (Lydia), the band’s debut EP, Gone, was met with positive reviews upon its release in April 2017. Meanwhile, the EP’s first single, Anchor, received press and radio coverage as the band began to build a buzz with their live shows throughout the southwest. Music critic Ed Masley at the Arizona Republic/azcentral.com says, “(Anchor) definitely left me wanting to hear more of what they have to offer. It starts with the strum of a single guitar underscoring a bittersweet lead vocal backed by a really nice harmony and takes on additional layers and urgency from there on its way to an anthemic chorus hook.” LUAU will release their sophomore EP “Nothing to Say” with George White (Saddles) on Friday, March 8th at the Rebel Lounge w/ Celebration Guns, Sleeping Lessons (Seattle), MRCH and DJ A Claire Slattery.  They’re also doing a listening party at The Whining Pig in Arcadia Friday, February 22nd.  You can preview their song “Discrete Company” on February 22nd then give em a follow on Facebook and Instagram. If you like what you hear, vote to give them a replay on Friday for Song of the Week.
