Overplay is a three-piece Pop Rock group from Glendale, Arizona. “Stop Dragging Me Down” is the classic 2000s jam about the girlfriend being taken away by the jock. This is filled with loud and energetic instrumentation to support to the pop rock/punk rock style. The vocals are sending a very hard hitting message to people, saying not to let anything drag them down and to let go of things stopping them from being happy. Preview Overplay’s song “Feel” below then give em a follow on Twitter and Instagram. If you like what you hear, vote to hear them again for the Song Of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Wednesday: Ben Anderson – Goodbye Serenity

Ben Anderson Youtopia

Music is the beautiful combination of structure and artistic expression. Phoenix born Singer-songwriter Ben Anderson writes and performs with balance as his mantra.

Anderson’s gift for strong melody, harmony, and lyrical content is consistent, even if his sound ventures into other styles of music. His bluesy, soulful voice is a rich blend of John Mayer, Sam Smith, and Jack Johnson. While his soft vocals caress you, but the music behind the caress delivers a satisfying jolt.

In 2014, Anderson recorded his first EP Roosevelt Row over at Grand Canyon Records with AZ studio legend Jack Miller under the helm. The 4-song EP only features acoustic guitar and Anderson’s vocals. The song’s lyrics are lighter in nature and the music is appreciated for its simplicity.

In the summer of 2015, Anderson enlisted Olivier Zahm of Electric Lotus Music to produce his second EP. Having the desire to expand his sound both musically and lyrically, Zahm was the perfect complement. Where the Lights Go?, a fully produced, four song EP was released in 2016 to acclaim by critics and listeners. Catch Ben Anderson at The Rebel Lounge Thursday, June 21st and on Facebook and Instagram. Thursday: The Breaking Pattern – Taylor Swift

the Breaking Pattern FB Band

The Breaking Pattern finds balance between melodic, acoustic-driven, ambience and an intensity derived from today’s modern indie rock. Fueled by flowery, introspective lyrics, the music creates an excitingly imaginative atmospheric-pop genre.

After acquiring a strong local following through earlier music projects, lead singer Derek Hackman joined forces with several prominent local musicians from across the Phoenix music scene to form The Breaking Pattern. In the Summer of 2015 the band emerged with a series of singles that were received with high praise from fans and critics alike, immediately going on to sell out their first several shows and amassing a large online fan base. Their quick rising popularity caught the attention of producer Cory Spotts (Lydia, BlesstheFall, Greely Estates), leading the band to record a full length album. The debut was a success, and heralded as one of the top albums of the year by Phoenix New Times. National recognition began to pour in as well, with Huffington Post dubbing The Breaking Pattern as “the face of the Phoenix emo revival movement”. After performing a series of local headlines and southwest one-offs, the band returned to the studio in early 2017 to begin their follow up EP. The album, aptly titled “…and Suddenly Nothing Becomes Everything”, was recorded over a several month span with local up-n-coming producer Hiram Hernandez (The New Low, Hotel Books), and sent to mixing by Justin Hergett (Lady Gaga, Nick Jonas), with mastering done by Joe LaPorta (Imagine Dragons, X-Ambassadors). During this time the band acquired new management, and began to set it’s sights toward the national stage.

With a flair for poetics, the band’s wordy lyrical stylings have carved a passionate, cult-like following from the emo revival and indie pop movements. Coupled with acoustic guitars and ambient soundscapes, the band calls back to a late 90s sound that explores new melodic territory and pushes the envelope on modern production trends. In all, the music lives up to the band’s self-described “atmospheric-pop” genre.

Catch The Breaking Pattern this Friday, June 22nd at The Rebel Lounge and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Give their song “Taylor Swift” a listen below, if a dig it, vote to to give them The Song of The Week at the bottom of the page.
