Delving into the world of moody, guitar-driven dance rock, Soft Deadlines have emerged from the Phoenix garage punk scene as force to be reckoned with. Soft Deadlines is Oliver Lemke (vocals/guitar/bass), Chad Cussen (guitar/bass), and Parker Douglas (drums). A mix between Gang of Four, Television and Bloc Party, Soft Deadlines balances the fine line between catchy, dancey hooks and pensive post-punk.
Filled with slick, infectious riffs, Go Dark, the full-length follow-up to 2014’s Critic and their 2013 EP Nice Try, details how every fix only creates new problems. “Everyone is looking for a way out of something,” explains Frontman Oliver Lemke. “Maybe it’s a state of anxiety and paranoia, or a relationship, or the loneliness and guilt that follow ending a relationship. But it’s always something.”
The title Go Dark refers to a Cold War espionage term about disappearing from the radar. “You can read the title a number of different ways, but all of them are sinister,” Lemke says. “Critic is a guitar pop record with a few jagged edges. This time around we wanted to do something darker and more propulsive, drawing a bit on the Factory Records philosophy that punk music and club music could be one and the same.”
Recorded at Stem Recording in Paradise Valley and The Red Room in Phoenix, Go Dark also explores themes such as partying to dull the pain, as well as the wealth of disinformation plaguing mainstream media and the internet. Oh, and also kittens. You can see Soft Deadlines at The Marquee Theater Friday, June 30th and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Check out their song “This City Is Hell ” below and if you love it, vote to hear it again for the Friday Replay at the bottom of the page.

Andrew Cameron Cline is the singer and songwriter and played all the instruments on our singles in 2016, Nick Florence is the engineer/producer as well as the lead guitarist. Thursday:
The process began with the instrumental stylings of guitarist Dylan Ewing, drummer Logan Dolezal, and the female presence of Erin Sperduti on bass. Soon after assembling, they stumbled upon singer Owen Doheny, providing the smooth vocals and lyrical genius to front the already established instrumental support. Erin and Logan make up the unequivocally tight rhythm section, combining fluid drumming with intricate bass lines to glue the sound together. Dylan takes on the job of multiple guitarists, delivering the inventive soundscapes that simultaneously counteract and enhance the mechanical design of the rhythmic section. The combination of these four create the distinct musical force that is Paranova.
Reminiscent of the enigmatic yet moving sounds of A Perfect Circle, The Mars Volta, Chevelle, The Deftones, and many more, Paranova continues to strive to deliver quality, innovative music to the listener. On March 20th, they released their debut EP Exordium. With a literal meaning of “beginning” in the latin language, this release is only the dawn of what Paranova has to contribute to the music scene. An undying dedication to music and innovation will launch Paranova into action, presenting the modern rock scene a force to be reckoned with. You can catch Paranova July 7th at Club Red and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Check out their music video for “Headline” below and if you love it, vote to hear them played again on Friday for the replay!
