Monday: Sundressed – So Poetic
“We’re all in this weird world together” is a perfectly suited mantra to describe Phoenix, Arizona’s Sundressed. The quote, from vocalist and songwriter Trevor Hedges’ description of the message behind his own lyrics, is hopeful and unifying – and thoroughly summarizes the band. Sundressed was initially created, in part, to help vocalist & songwriter Trevor Hedges maintain sobriety. Years later, the calm of a sober life has allowed Hedges to take his struggles and successes and refocus them to a broader scope. What’s truly remarkable is that he’s managed to achieve this without straying away from his signature mixture of self-deprecation and eager determination. What’s left is an uplifting take on the heavier aspects of life, inspiring hope without treading into trite or conceived territory.
The past two years have been monumentally prolific for Sundressed, releasing two EPs and a split with Nashville’s Secret Stuff in rapid succession between April 2015 and July 2016. Now, the five-piece outfit has readied their first full-length record, “A Little Less Put Together.” The LP (OUT NOW!) , full of syrupy, yet poignant pop-punk songs wrought with massive hooks and stark lyrical honesty, is a must-listen for fans of Saves the Day, The Starting Line, & Transit. The uptempo bounciness and complex vocal melodies of “Mill Ave and Broadway” call back to mid-era Relient K, while the melancholy, synth-tinged “A Little Less Put Together” shows the band taking influence from Motion City Soundtrack. Ultimately, “A Little Less Put Together” is a perfect windows-down-on-a-warm-spring-day kind of record – capable of tugging at heart strings, but also demanding singalong after singalong with its huge, addictive choruses. Tuesday: The Technicolors – Neon Roses
American rock band The Technicolors started off as the brainchild of Phoenix-native Brennan Smiley.
The formation of the band itself started back when Smiley was acoustically supporting other local music acts by performing his songs live. After a few shows, the project began to grow and soon turned into a more serious approach, taking on the form of The Technicolors.
Inspired by the New Millennium’s garage rock and mid 90’s Brit-pop, The Technicolors combine elements of those two genres with classic and modern components and subject matters to introduce a completely new and exclusive sound.
Today, The Technicolors is Brennan Smiley (Vocals, Guitar), Troy Lowney (Keys), Mike (Nico) Nicolette (Bass), and Sean Silverman (Guitar, Vocals). Wednesday: The Maine – *NEW SONG*
The Maine is an American alternative rock band from Tempe, Arizona, formed in 2007. Their first release, the EP Stay Up, Get Down was released in late 2007, followed by a five song EP titled The Way We Talk released on December 11, 2007. The band’s first full-length album, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop was released July 8, 2008. Their holiday release …And a Happy New Year was released in December 2008. The Maine released their second full-length album, Black & White, on July 13, 2010, selling 22,634 copies in its first week. On December 6, 2011, the group’s third album, Pioneer, was released and it peaked at No. 90 on the Billboard 200.[1] Their fourth full-length record Forever Halloween was released on June 4, 2013 reaching No. 39 on the Billboard 200 by selling over 10,000 copies in its first week. The Maine later released a deluxe edition of Forever Halloween on June 17, 2014. Their fifth studio album, American Candy, was released on March 31, 2015. Thursday: Palm Springs Eternal – Long Weekend
Palm Springs Eternal is the latest emo revival act to rise from the Arizona music scene. The band, hailing from Phoenix, and not Palm Springs as the name may suggest, formed out of the ashes of members’ previous projects – coming together to create a sound that pays direct homage to all that came before. Most notably, Chuckie Duff’s former band Dear and the Headlights (Equal Vision) toured extensively including appearances made on major festivals like Lollapalooza, Warped Tour, and Coachella.
The lineup, composed of Duff, Charles Barth, Jesse Cole Ward, and Rob Kroehler formed out of mutual fandom of each other’s previous musical endeavors. Their intent was to draw on their shared history in the genre and approach crafting songs and sound in a lean and straightforward way, cutting out anything that felt overthought or self-conscious.
Palm Springs Eternal released their first single “Father Time” in December 2017, followed by their second single “Long Weekend” in January 2018. The band recently wrapped up time in the studio working on their first ever EP (not yet released) with Bob Hoag at Flying Blanket Recording.
