Tuesday: Mississippi Nova – Tear On
Mississippi Nova is a heavy, blues rock band from Phoenix, Arizona that has been described by the likes of Rich Berra as “Swampy space blues”. The group harnesses a sonic wall of power, distortion and melody. Providing a slew of grungy, soulful rock and roll oozing dusty desert blues vibes.
The band’s loud, dusty rock and roll birth took place back in 2016 in Phoenix Arizona. Founded by guitarist and vocalist Robby Reiter and drummer John Goodwin, the premise of the group is to deliver original tunes riddled with the classic, organic and pure elements of old time rock and roll. John’s background in punk, grunge, metal and garage fused with Robby’s blues, soul, classic rock and sixties-psych delivers catchy overdriven grungy blues rock numbers. Hinting at influences such as Peter Green, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham, Keith Moon.
After a long stint as a two-piece, Jaime Chan joined the group on bass. Providing fullness and complexity through thunderous John Entwistle-esque licks. Most recently Tom Hammer has stepped in on the drums in the live setting and for the foreseeable future. The group is currently gigging around the greater Phoenix area to promote the recent release. Wednesday: Maeby – Dive
Maeby is a female indie pop artist who emerged out of the Phoenix music scene in June of 2019. Her debut single, Dive, is a vocally driven song with strong rock influences. The premise of the song talks about how sometimes we feel compelled to dive into guilty pleasures to cope with the day to day, and in her newly released music video, she brings some examples of said coping to light (ie drugs, alcohol, binge-watching tv). Maeby’s influences include, but are not limited to, Billie Eilish, Alice Merton, Lorde, Harry Styles, and Amy Winehouse. Thursday: Dollskin – Empty House
If life was a comic book, Doll Skin would be right at home in the larger than life color pages. Four Glitter-fueled, teenage, punk rock superheroes, wielding mighty guitars, as they battle tyranny and oppression with adrenaline-fueled rock anthems. Shortly after forming in 2013, when members Vocalist Sydney Dolezal, Guitarist Alex Snowden, Bassist Nicole Rich, and Drummer Meghan Herring met at the Phoenix SCHOOL OF ROCK, the fledgling band came to the attention of Megadeth bassist and co-founder David Ellefson, who took them under his wing, and together they began a sonic assault on the West Coast, playing shows with Social Distortion, Green Jello, DRI, SLUNT, and many more, and set out to work on their Ellefson produced debut studio release.
2015 saw the Worldwide release of Doll Skin’s debut EP In Your Face, through Ellefson’s own imprint EMP – Ellefson Music Productions, distributed Megaforce Records, (also known as the launching pad for legendary big 4 thrash bands Metallica and Anthrax and many more.) and Cargo Records in Europe, and set Doll Skin on a trajectory straight to the ranks of the Hard Rock elite.
Says David, “When I was first introduced to Doll Skin, I knew there was something really special there. Through working with them as a Producer, it became even more apparent what these girls were capable of.”
