Tuesday: Playboy Manbaby
Playboy Manbaby is a 6 piece punk band from Phoenix, AZ. The band consists of Robbie Pfeffer (vocals), Chris Hudson (bass), TJ Friga (guitar), David Cosme (trumpet), Chad Dennis (drums), and Austin Rickert (sax). Playboy Manbaby is the contradictory soundtrack to the contemporary life experience. Grimly sarcastic yet youthfully nihilistic music that seems to crash into things with a semi-coherent deliberation that can only be generated by a group of frail but over-caffeinated and eternally anxious young adults. Playboy Manbaby is the theme song to the sentiment “what the fuck am I doing with my life?” Indecisive in both message and genre but never lacking in sheer intensity. You can catch Playboy Manbaby at their Lobotomobile album release party this Friday, April 6th at The Rebel Lounge and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Preview their song “Strange Plastic Surgery”, then vote for it to get replayed on Friday for the Song Of The Week!
Wednesday: Gorky
Gorky is the band and music project of actor-writer Jesse Valencia, who made his feature film debut opposite Tom Sizemore in the 2016 indie crime drama ‘Durant’s Never Closes.’ His debut book, about infamous band The Brian Jonestown Massacre, is forthcoming from University of Hell Press. His friend Courtney Taylor-Taylor, of BJM’s rivals The Dandy Warhols, helped Jesse with ideas for producing “Action Pants,” even going so far as to tell the Gorky frontman he wished he’d written it himself. You can see Gorky this Sunday at The Rhythm Room for the When In Az – Vol. 2 album party. Check out their song “Action Pants” below then give em a follow on Facebook and Twitter. If you like what you hear, vote for them to get Song Of The Week at the bottom of the page.
Thursday: The Technicolors
American rock band The Technicolors started off as the brainchild of Phoenix-native Brennan Smiley.
The formation of the band itself started back when Smiley was acoustically supporting other local music acts by performing his songs live. After a few shows, the project began to grow and soon turned into a more serious approach, taking on the form of The Technicolors.
Inspired by the New Millennium’s garage rock and mid 90’s Brit-pop, The Technicolors combine elements of those two genres with classic and modern components and subject matters to introduce a completely new and exclusive sound.
Today, The Technicolors is Brennan Smiley (Vocals, Guitar), Troy Lowney (Keys), Mike (Nico) Nicolette (Bass), and Sean Silverman (Guitar, Vocals). You can find The Technicolors on Facebook, Twitterand Instagram. Check out their song “Sha La La” below and if you like it, vote to hear it again for the Song Of The Week at the bottom of the page!
