Tuesday: Upsahl – Drugs
21-year-old Indie-Pop artist UPSAHL has every right to celebrate. After receiving critical acclaim for a series of buzzing singles and signing with Arista Records, UPSAHL has unveiled her highly anticipated debut EP, Hindsight 20/20. The entire EP has been praised by the likes of Billboard, Consequence of Sound, HillyDilly, Ladygunn, Refinery29, Earmilk and more.
“I wrote this EP over the course of 2018 and after I moved from Phoenix to LA,” says UPSAHL. “I was writing songs every day and learning to be alone while all of my friends went to college and were doing college things. It was my first time away from home. I was discovering so much about myself and my relationships with people in my life that my days writing songs in the studio turned into sort of therapy sessions. I would just spill out whatever was on my mind on any given day. Hindsight 20/20 represents my reflection on this past year and all the experiences I had.”
Given the maturity in her craft as a remarkably skilled singer, songwriter and musician, it’s no wonder that Billboard proclaimed UPSAHL as an “industry mainstay.”
An undeniable live performer, UPSAHL has recently embarked on a nationwide tour with Max Frost, performed a series of festivals in the U.K., including The Great Escape, as well as lauded Popscene and School Night gigs.
Born into a musical family, UPSAHL started playing both guitar and piano at the age of 5. “My dad was touring in bands long before I was born,” shares UPSAHL, “so I was lucky enough to have a band room in my house all throughout my childhood. Having access to instruments and a thorough understanding of music allowed me to start writing my own stuff when I was 13.”
By the time she was 14, UPSAHL began releasing music that gained much-deserved recognition throughout the Phoenix music scene. Once a local darling for national touring acts in Phoenix, UPSAHL previously played The McDowell Mountain Music Festival, opening for artists like Beck and Flume. A graduate of the Arizona School for the Arts, a performing arts school, UPSAHL continued to hone her craft, while being classically trained on piano, guitar and choir every day.
Influenced by artists like The Shins, Spoon and Lorde, UPSAHL has an undeniable ability to write songs that can permeate your psyche, forcing you to tap into your deepest emotions. “I like to maintain powerful and complex lyrics that are relatable to a variety of people in a variety of situations,” says UPSAHL. “I especially like to write about relationships, friendships, politics and important cultural issues.”

Wednesday: Whstle – Oakland
WHSTLE is a Phoenix-based band that combines powerful electronic hits with eclectic folk rock anthems. Band members Saydi, Will & Jake draw from their pop/rock, electronic, and soulful singer-songwriter roots to create a cinematic vibe with intimate lyrics. Thursday: Fourbanger – Afterthought
Fourbanger is a pop-punk band that started in the late 90’s, playing consistently all over Arizona and beyond. The band built a strong local following and played shows with many national touring bands over the next several years. The LP Audio Accident was released in 2002 and helped Fourbanger become regarded as one of the best bands in the valley. After a few years and an EP release, the band took a hiatus for 7 years, then reunited to play a few special shows. This led to more shows and to writing new music, and in 2018 the LP Never Let Go was released. Check them out as the open for The Ataris at Pub Rock Live, Tuesday June 11th.
