The Hourglass Cats are a Desert Reggae & RockNRoll collective based out of Phoenix, AZ. Formed in 2011 by frontman Cori Rios and drummer “Hot” Karl Maier. The Hourglass Cats consist of Chaz Fertal (Saxophone), Lisa Lizanec (Trombone), Seth Gory (Bass), Jesse Morrrison (Keys/Vox), Enrique Naranjo (Drums) and Cori Rios (Guitar/Vox).
In 2013 The Hourglass Cats released their debut 432 EP to an incredible response and esteemed reviews. With Modern Times calling it “one of the most fun listens of the summer” and YabYum hailing it for it’s complex journey into the world of 432 hz. They followed up their EP with a slew of singles throughout 2014, including the critically acclaimed and spectacularly catchy “Too Damn Rude”. Described as not just catchy, but a “fantastic take on 2 Tone ska with an edgy rock vibe. It is an immediate, in-your-face dance number.”
2016 saw the release of Portraits of Cats, THC’s second and most diverse album to date. Recorded and produced by their very own Jesse Morrison of Studio at The Farm. “Portraits of Cats will take you on a musical journey of THC’s influences”. From the “intoxicating reggae pop” of the opening track, Rainchecks, to the Latin inspired Bailar Para Mi, which will “transport you south of the border for a few minutes of fantasy,” all the way to the “prowling, growling, edgy Garage-Rock sound of Downtown Funk,” you will get a sample of their wide range of influences. The Hourglass Cats are on their way to becoming one of Phoenix’s premiere bands. Having most recently performed on the Main Stage at Mcdowell Mountain Music Festival, The Hourglass Cats have toured the west coast and southwest regions including California, Texas, and even as far south as parts of Mexico. They have twice headlined an AZ showcase at SXSW and have shared bills with Passion Pit, Portugal The Man, Thievery Corporation, Slightly Stoopid, KONGOS, STRFKR, Allen Stone, Dispatch, Tribal Seeds, and more! Check out their song “Rainchecks” below and upcoming shows.

“Ricky Fitts is a fresh new indie pop outfit that gets down to danceable electronica right out of the starting gate. They have a sound that suggests they may have grown up on the like of Depeche Mode, New Order and Death Cab, as well as recognizing that you can rock inside a song that’s club ready. The best example of that is when the drums explode along with the guitars for the last minute of the song. Ricky Fitts is Matt Brunsvold (vocals, bass), Elliot Weber (Vocals, Keys) Alec Bushman (drums), Matt Meza (guitar), and Fletcher Milloy (guitar). This is just straightforward alternative dance rock, and it’s akin to a lot of the late-night music found on MTV in the early 1990s. Named for the insightful artist from American Beauty, I somehow have a feeling that the fictional lad would love the music a band taking his namesake is making. “Nightmare” isn’t music for heavy analysis. It’s music to get your legs moving and your ass shaking. This is their second single, and I would highly recommend checking out “Goodtimes” and keep an ear out for their forthcoming record, The Great Beyond.”

Mimelight started in 2012 with four friends in a room with no direction other than wanting to play good music. It has since expanded to 2 EP releases, features in magazines and music websites, shows in major venues and in front of industry execs, and the best and brightest fans and friends they could ask for. Mimelight pulls from their collective backgrounds of diverse musical tastes to bring a sound familiar to something that would come out of the historical Arizona music scene. At the end of the day, the band hopes to influence and help people feel something – anything – that will inspire, create, or reflect on life and what it has to offer. You can find Mimelight on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pub Rock Live February 4th. Check out their song “Hiroshima” below:
