Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have received two Emmy nominations, thanks to their score for HBO’s Watchmen limited series.

The Nine Inch Nails band mates are up for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score), and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. The former category recognizes the duo’s work on the Watchmen premiere episode, “It’s Summer and We’re Running Out of Ice,” while the latter includes the jazzy tune “The Way It Used to Be,” which plays in the series’ sixth episode, “This Extraordinary Being.”

Reznor and Ross’ nods are among the 26 nominations Watchmen received for the 2020 Emmys, which leads all programs. Other music-related nominees include the Beastie Boys Story film, which will compete for the Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special title.

The 2020 Emmys will air live Sunday, September 20 on ABC.

By the way, if Reznor and Ross were to take home an Emmy, they’d be one step closer to the hallowed EGOT title. They’ve already won a Grammy and an Oscar for their The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Social Network scores, respectively. With an Emmy under their belt, all that would be left is a Tony.

Hopefully this means a Broadway production of The Downward Spiral is in the works.
