Twenty One Pilots‘ new single, “Shy Away,” has reached number one on Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay chart, and it didn’t take very long.
As the publication reports, “Shy Away” only needed three weeks to hit the top spot on the ranking. The last artist who ascended up Alternative Airplay that fast was — shocker — Twenty One Pilots, who reached number one with their 2018 single, “Jumpsuit,” in just two weeks.
Prior to Twenty One Pilots’ one-two punch, the last single that climbed the Alternative Airplay mountain so quickly was Foo Fighters‘ 2011 tune, “Rope,” which took number one after three weeks.
With “Shy Away,” Twenty One Pilots now have eight number-one Alternative Airplay singles. Interestingly, the duo now joins U2, R.E.M, The Cure, Linkin Park, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foos as the only acts who’ve conquered Alternative Airplay in three weeks or less at least twice.
“Shy Away” is the lead single off the upcoming Twenty One Pilots album Scaled and Icy, due out May 21.
