Rivers Cuomo has a lot of projects on his plate. In addition to releasing two new Weezer albums this year and completing a web programming class, the “Buddy Holly” rocker is also creating on a movie musical.
In an interview with the site The Forty-Five, Cuomo reveals that the film is called Buddha Superstar, and is in the works with the Broadway producer who helped bring the Green Day-inspired American Idiot musical to life.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long,” Cuomo says. “I think I just needed somebody else to come along and really encourage me.”
Cuomo also shares more info about Weezer’s next endeavor: a four-part album series inspired by each of the four seasons.
“I think they’re going to be eight songs apiece,” he explains. “They’re called Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter, and together they’re called Weezer Seasons.”
The first entry is currently scheduled to arrive spring 2022.
Weezer just released their latest album, the orchestral OK Human, in January. Its guitar-driven counterpart, Van Weezer, is due out May 7.
