Wet Leg‘s “Chaise Longue” is nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance Grammy, one of the five new categories making their debut at the 2023 ceremony. If the duo could add another category to the Grammys, what would it be?
Billboard posed that very question to Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, and while we would’ve guessed they’d suggest “Best Mean Girls Reference,” they had another idea: Best Lo-Fi Recording.
“Our track ‘Angelica’ was recorded on the Isle of Wight in our living room on a laptop with just a few mics,” the group explains. “It would be great to have a category that highlights other artists who are making music in this way despite not having access to many resources.”
While they wait for Best Lo-Fi Recording to become a new category, Wet Leg will have to be satisfied with their multiple Grammy noms for 2023. Along with the nod for Best Alternative Music Performance prize, Wet Leg will also compete for Best New Artist. Their self-titled debut album is up for Best Alternative Music Album.
The 2023 Grammys take place February 5.
