Picture this: You’re in the desert… but it’s a winter wonderland!
Don’t leave it up to the imagination. The Fairmont Princess has brought this to reality yet again. It’s become such a beautiful tradition for us to visit the Princess at the holidays. It’s because they do it so well. From the second you drive onto the property, you know there is something special happening. Over 6 million lights are used across the property to bring the spirit of Christmas to the bones of Arizona.
This year I held the privilege of attending their Tree Lighting Ceremony to launch Christmas at the Princess and what a treat that was. All the wonders of Christmas at the Princess before anyone else had been yet and a little extra oomph. When you attend, in lieu of a tree lighting ceremony, they do have enchanted plaza shows that you can catch each hour and I promise they aren’t selling you short with that. If you have kids, it will easily give you a 10 minute break.
This year fan favorites are back like the fireside ice rink, a chance to write letters to Santa, and a trip around the property aboard the Princess Express to check out those lights. But the Princess wouldn’t be the Princess if they didn’t try something new so this year, be sure to check out what secrets are hiding in The Village!
We got “trapped” in the Village because everytime we went to leave, we found something else we wanted to do! If my baby was walking, we would have never left! Skating, ice mazes, chair lifts and more all live within the boundaries of The Village. Enough to do that kids are entertained, themed drinks and fare make it fun for the adults and the ambiance is enjoyed by all ages.
I stayed next to the firepit with my “jingle juice” (a cranberry and rosemary holiday cocktail) letting Shiloh take in all the stimulation. It’s this child’s first Christmas and he wasn’t sure where to begin! No tears and didn’t seemed overwhelmed but was definitely lost in thought trying to figure out what we were doing. Watching him process a new holiday was all the entertainment I needed.
I found my husband admiring these benches made of skis and other small details included throughout the property. We want to go back because there is so much to do, we didn’t make it to the Princess Express! When we go back for a second night we will probably just a book a room. It’s what we did last year and I recommend it. I felt like I could slow down and enjoy everything more knowing I didn’t have to then drive 30 minutes back home in the dark. If you are able to swing it- make it a staycation. Get two nights of access to Christmas at the Princess fun and during the day stay at the resort and check out the other amenities like their world class spa (my favorite.)
Other stops I didn’t have a chance to make during my first visit that I want to do next time of course include a photo with Santa for Shiloh- because I feel like you have to for their first Christmas. And it really isn’t complete without a spin through Twinkle Town- probably where we spent the most time last year. You can get food and drinks there plus the addition of a new Christmas carousel and Lolli swings.
Whether you’re looking for a holiday themed date idea or need to get out with the whole family, Christmas at the Princess is sure to give you a night you’ll want to share with others.
