Glass Animals is turning “Heat Waves” into “Solar Power.”
Dave Bayley and company performed a cover of the Lorde song during an appearance on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge this week. Their version of the tune replaces the percussive acoustic guitar riff of the original with a steady drum beat and hand claps, but still arrives an an equally joyous chorus.
You can check out Glass Animals’ “Solar Power” cover streaming now on YouTube. If nothing else, it’s worth watching just to hear Bayley sing the line “I’m kinda like a prettier Jesus.”
The original “Solar Power” is the title track off Lorde’s new album, which was released this past August.
Glass Animals, meanwhile, spent 2021 enjoying the biggest hit of their career with “Heat Waves,” a single off their 2020 album, Dreamland. The track’s breakout success earned them a Best New Artist nomination for the 2022 Grammys, held January 31.
